The Academy of Experts....

I must say that I am grateful to be living, working and learning in an era where technology puts everything at our fingertips!  When I first started my Ed.D. program, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to study, but people kept telling me that I should build on what the experts were already saying.  At the time, I didn't have any idea what that meant either...but as I now narrowed my topic and drafted a literature review, I am happy to say that I have found experts in my field of study - training transfer - that I want to follow and build on!

In the field of training transfer, Baldwin and Ford are the clear experts.  They've been pursuing this topic since 1988 and have influenced many others to follow.  They were the first to introduce a training transfer model (1988) and have also conducted reviews of literature about the topic.  Baldwin and Ford's model served as the catalyst for many other to research the topic.  The transfer training model evolved through Holton's model in 1996 to Broad's model in 2005.  I'm basing my conceptual framework off Burke and Hutchin's (2008) comprehensive model.

I must say, I was a bit intimidated by the whole dissertation process, but after reading the works of these experts, I feel much better - more supported...a bit overwhelmed, but at least I have the experts on my side...

ACADEMIC WRITING....Quite the humbling experience...

Over the holiday break, I did a lot of work on my dissertation proposal draft.  My chair was expecting it in the New Year, after all.  As exciting was it was to put all my thoughts on paper and share it with the world, it was definitely a challenge getting it all down in a scholarly way, with scholarly citations and all.  But I muddled through it and sent it off to my chair who diligently got to the task of editing it - poor soul :(

Well....I finally got it back and boy did she take her red pen to it...LOL!  Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for all the edits...I know it will make the final product much stronger, but it was definitely humbling to see all the red marks!!!

Off to work on Draft #2!

Getting Started!

So...I've entered what might be the last year of my Ed.D program...at least if all goes as planned! Finishing up a couple more courses before really focusing on my dissertation 100%.  Actually, this blog is a result of an assignment in my most recent course EDUC 815.  I'm hoping this will help me log not only my journey but all the sources, resources and references I come across to help me reach my goal...DESTINATION 2013: DISSERTATION!

So...stay tuned and keep me posted as I make my journey!!!
